What Do You Know For Sure?

Dearly beloved,

“What do you know for sure?”  My grandpa used to ask me that question sometimes! It was kind of a greeting like, “what’s happening” or “what’s up!”

What do you know for sure?  What are you absolutely certain of? Our new series in Philippians is, “The Disciple’s Path to Glory.” Are you convinced that the path you are on will lead you to life with the Lord Jesus forever?  If you aren’t sure then I can almost guarantee you that “joy” is not your portion?

I have another thing that I can almost guarantee and that is that, “any person living in direct disobedience to God has no biblical assurance.”  I am quite sure:

“The one who says I have come to know Him, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:4

“The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.” 1 John 2:9

“The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning.” 1 John 3:8

However, if you read through 1 John, you will have a plethora of biblical evidence that you can know for sure if you are a child of God!

My title for Sunday January 15’s sermon is “Confidence in God’s Workmanship!”  Paul is writing to this church he planted 10 years earlier and he trying to instill confidence!  The reason is because from the first day they heard the “Gospel” until the time that he wrote- well they were faithful followers of Jesus!

We all long for security and thus this verse is our major focus for Sunday!

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” Phil. 1:6

Confident in Jesus,

Glen
