Weep with those who weep

The Bible tells us in Romans 12:15, “… weep with those who weep.” My heart is heavy over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many more deeply painful reminders of the sin of injustice. I sorrow for the families of these as well as those of Patrick Underwood, David McAtee, Chris Beaty, Italia Kelly, and Calvin Horton who have all been killed in the riots and violence that have followed. Please join me in praying for the families, loved ones, and friends of all these who have suffered loss – that God will put His loving arms around them and comfort them during this tragedy.

This Sunday I’m asking God to speak to us through His Word as we put our “Family Matters” series on hold to address this critical time in our nation.  While I can’t understand what it’s like to be mistreated because of the color of my skin, that doesn’t mean I can’t listen to those who have, pray, lend a hand, speak up and do whatever I can to end injustice, bring about unity, and share the peace and love of Christ.

Join us to pray for this urgent issue on Wednesday in our Joel Moment at 3 pm.  We thought we had turned the corner from lamenting to rejoicing, but God has more for us to learn there! Pray with me that we would turn away from our sinful attitudes and selfish ways, “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like and ever flowing stream”. Amos 5:24. Valley Church, as we have in the Corona virus pandemic, this is a time to shine the love of Jesus. Our world needs Christ. Our cities need Christ. Our own hearts need Christ every day! Keep Him front and center in all you do!

Grace and peace,

Kurt
