No Ordinary Man

As I have met people on my travels to various places around the world, they eventually find out where I’m from. While it doesn’t happen as much as it used to, many people would say, “Oh haha, then, ‘Do you know the way to San Jose?’”, like I’d never heard that before! The 1968 song shows its age when it contrasts San Jose to Los Angeles and says, “…you can really breathe in San Jose, they’ve got a lot of space, there’ll be a place where I can stay.” Sorry, Dionne, not so much anymore!

What the song does get right is that people want to know the way to a good destination. The Story Chapter 24 covers the journeys of Jesus leading up to his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. All along the way he preaches, teaches, tells stories, heals people, feeds people, and drives out demons. But each of those activities is pointing to one “destination” – that we would believe that Jesus is who He said He is. Jesus didn’t say He is A way to God but that He is THE one and only way. I’m so grateful I don’t have to wander in the dark or wonder if I got it right… He’s made the way clear and knowable!

Don’t forget this Sunday is also our “Annual Meeting” where our chairman will lead us through the final vote for our deacons, Jaime our Treasurer will give a praise report for our finances, and we’ll send off our latest Valley Church Global Partner! See you there.

Grateful not to be lost anymore,
Kurt Jones
