Whatever?

Dearly Beloved,

Whatever? What does the word “whatever” communicate? As you know it can vary depending on the context in which it is used and the tone of voice used when saying it. In some instances, “whatever” can be used as a dismissive response to indicate that the speaker is not interested in continuing the conversation or discussing a particular topic further. It can also be used to express a lack of concern or indifference towards a situation or decision.

However, in other contexts, “whatever” can be used in a more positive way to convey a sense of flexibility or openness to different options or possibilities.

Remember these words from John 14 last Sunday, “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”

Is Jesus serious? Whatever and anything? Does He mean what He says – “I will do it.”? Jesus is telling the truth, or He isn’t. The Bible tells us in 1 Samuel that, “Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him.” What is prayer to you, a monologue or a conversation?

Perhaps you have been on the receiving end of a “one-sided conversation.” The person talked so much that you did not have an opportunity to respond or even make a comment. Could it be that God is frustrated with one-sided conversations when all we do is talk?

This Sunday we will be examining the last half of John 14 where Jesus makes some almost unbelievable statements and promises. He is going to share some in depth teaching on the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the lives of obedient followers. Speaking of obedience, we will gather together to celebrate “communion.”

Men, if you have not yet signed up for the men’s breakfast, please do not say “whatever.” I firmly believe the Holy Spirit wants to teach all of us more about Himself. Wives, give your husband $10 and tell him to go have a great breakfast. Register for the breakfast here.

In the name of Jesus,
Glen
