Dear Valley Church family and friends,
Thank you so much for your prayers and support for our LOL Mexico team. Please continue to pray for our team of 43 as we leave on Sunday. We wanted to tell you a little about the family we’ll be building the home for in Ensenada.
Rodrigo and Ivonn Ponce moved to Ensenada 4 years ago, most of the time renting old houses. They work hard every day, selling goods at stop lights to provide for their two sons: Angel, age 5, and William, age 3. Sometimes Rodrigo gets hired as a gardener.
Both Rodrigo and Ivonn come from dysfunctional families and carry lots of emotional trauma. When Ivonn was 13 she had an accident and has been disabled since. She’s had 15 surgeries and uses a wheelchair. Ivonn has raised her brother Luis since she was 15 years old since her mother couldn’t care for him. Even though he’s 14 years old, he cannot attend school because of a lack of finances. Ivonn’s brother, sister-in-law, and their son also live with them. Together their household income is about $70 per week.
Five months ago they were able to give a down payment for land and built a small room made out of scraps of laminate, wood, and cardboard. Wind and rain come through the holes and Angel and William play on the dirt floor.
The Ponce family was contacted by YUGO and have been meeting with a local pastor for the past four months. They’ve learned the basic truths of the Gospel and have been attending church on Sundays. They are in the process of getting to know Jesus and to trust Him. Our goal is to build a two bedroom house on their land and to show them the love of Christ in word and deed. We’ll also be doing a VBS and helping the local church in the neighborhood with some repairs and painting, and serving the poor in a feeding program.
Again, thanks for your prayers and financial support! May Christ be lifted up!
