Dear friends,
“And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.” Rev. 19:20
What is the mark of the beast referred to several times in the book of Revelation? Many good expositors of Revelation differ widely as to the exact nature of the mark of the beast! Is it an implanted chip, a barcode that is tattooed into the skin, or simply a mark that identifies someone as being faithful to the Antichrist’s kingdom? Your guess may be better than mine!
Needless to say, there is a lot of speculation! But we are instructed to, “Refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.” On the other hand, “We are to destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ”
Two weeks ago, our key verse was from Galatians 6:17:
“From now on let no one trouble me [by making it necessary for me to justify my authority as an apostle, and the absolute truth of the gospel], for I bear on my body the branding-marks of Jesus [the wounds, scars, and other outward evidence of persecutions—these testify to His ownership of me]. Gal. 6:17
What identifies you as a radical follower of Jesus? What are the marks in your life that set you apart from lukewarm Christianity? The question is not trivial but critical! This Sunday we will conclude this little series called “Branded for Jesus’ Sake!”
We won’t be passing out firecrackers this 4th of July weekend but “truth” that will hopefully ignite a new passion in your heart for Jesus and His kingdom!
For Jesus’ sake,
Glen
