Dear friends,
I can almost guarantee you that your children and grandchildren can fill in the blank! Ok, maybe you can too and perhaps some of you have your tickets for Friday? People are standing in lines waiting to hand over their hard-earned cash!
My body has never darkened the doors of a “Star Wars” movie theatre – or perhaps because I am a “senior citizen” I can’t remember? I started teaching regular “science” at James Lick High School in 1966 and have never gotten into “Sci-Fi” movies.
Most people in Silicon Valley have been waiting for Christmas – not because they are intrigued afresh with perhaps the greatest cataclysmic event in human history since creation – “The Incarnation,” – but the “The Last Jedi!”
While I am not a “Star Wars” junkie I do border on being a “Christmas Junkie.” I like the lights, the trees, the food and the celebrations. It is the only time of the year when secular radio says anything about Jesus! I have such fond memories of Christmas growing up my parent’s farm in southern Minnesota. We had our traditions of course like I am sure you did. But are our Christmas traditions Biblical or are they based more on assumptions, perceptions and speculations?
We have entitled our Christmas series this year – “Unexpected!” There is any old saying that says, “Life Can Turn on a Dime!” We all know all that too well! An MRI, a lump, a pain in the chest, a driver’s error or a miss step! One day you have a beautiful house and the next day there is nothing but ashes!
This Sunday my message is entitled, “Suddenly!” Life didn’t “turn on a dime” for the shepherds but their lives were never the same after a “Choir of Angels” announced the birth of Jesus!
I would like you to consider inviting a friend to church this Sunday and next! Please take the time to read and meditate on Luke 2:1-20. I know you will be on time for our services just like those who have their tickets for “The Last Jedi!” We are all on time for what is important!
Because Jesus is coming again,
Glen
