Do Unto Others

Dear Friends,

Last Sunday I mentioned a “series of unfortunate events” that included a COVID-19 quarantine, a crowbar, and a stolen car. Thanks so much for your notes of care and concern. I’m happy to report that our household received negative results from our Corona Virus tests and that my face is healing! Thank you, Lord!

In addition, “Ruby”, our beat up 1996 Honda Accord with over 200,00 miles, is back home again. (She’s been stolen three times now from in front of our house!) Last Saturday morning we got a text from the police saying that our car had been found! So, we called to ASK about the car. They told us we’d have to SEEK her at the impound yard. Once we got there, we had to KNOCK on the door for them to let us in. (Sound like a familiar verse?)

Most of us have grown up hearing some version of the “Golden Rule”. We were probably all told when we were growing up to “Do to others as you want them to do to you.” But most of us probably missed the word “So” or “Therefore” at the beginning of verse 12. I know I did! But if we don’t understand the connection between verse 12 and the verses that precede it, we won’t understand the entire passage completely!

Jesus told his followers in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” The confidence we have that God will give when we ask, will be found when we seek, and will open when we knock is the key to understanding how to live out “The Golden Rule”. Join us this Sunday to discover this critical connection as we get back to our series through the Sermon on the mount.

Blessings in Christ,

Kurt Jones
