Dear Teammates,
Are you winning? To answer that question, one needs more information and perhaps even a matrix. I first met Dave Rousseau in Zimbabwe in 1996 and he has become my best friend. Dave and his wife Sue have served with TEAM for 30 years in Zimbabwe and Africa. Over the years Dave regularly asked me, “Glen, are you winning?” My answer was often something like this, “Well Dave it depends on – who, what, when, where, why, and how?”
Are you winning in life? In your marriage? In your family? At your job? In your spiritual life? Or are you losing? Do you think God prefers winners or losers? If I said God prefers losers, that statement would be positively un-American. As General George Patton famously remarked, “Americans love a winner. America will not tolerate a loser.” The legendary Coach Vince Lombardi said, “Show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser.” We all want to be on the winning team, don’t we? That’s why millions of people filled out brackets this month prior to March Madness. I filled out a bracket and I am a loser, and the tournament is not even over.
Guess who said this, “Success is a lousy teacher. It makes smart people think they can’t lose.” None other than Bill Gates. We are getting close to finishing up our little miniseries called, “Learning from Life’s Crises.” Our major focus has been on 2 Cor. 4:8-9. Do these verses describe a winner or a loser? “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.”
My title for this Sunday is, “The Life That Wins.” Meditate on 2 Cor. 4:7-15 prior to Sunday.
