Fulfilled

By any objective standard Cooper Kupp should be one of the most “fulfilled” people on the face of the earth. I freely confess I’m no sports fan, but we have kind and generous friends who let us watch the Super Bowl with them (and eat their snacks) while they patiently explained the game and the players to me. Even I found Cooper’s story inspiring.

“Capping an incredible, historic 2021-22 season, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp was named Super Bowl MVP on Sunday night, after he helped his squad to a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He finished with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns, and none was more important than the game-winning touchdown catch with 1:25 remaining.” Jon Ackerman, SportsSpectrum.com Monday Feb 14, 2022. What a celebration!

In stark contrast to most others who have achieved this temporary pinnacle of success, Kupp is quick to give credit to God and points to his faith in Christ as his deepest motivation. “I think the thing that He has taught me is that you will find that you are most fulfilled, you will find the most joy, when you are rooted in your purpose, and specifically rooted in His purpose for you,” Kupp said. “That, to me, has been one of the best things about this year beyond all the games that we won, beyond all the accolades…”

Our theme this Sunday is “Fulfilled” – What does it mean to BE fulfilled and how do we FIND fulfillment? As we celebrate the incredible resurrection of Jesus this Easter Sunday morning, we also celebrate the completion of God’s ultimate plan. Here is where it all comes together. Starting in the garden in the book of Genesis, through Abraham, Moses, David, and all the rest we’ve studied through ”The Story”, God has been working up to this moment – that in the resurrection, Jesus fulfilled His Father’s will and opened the door for eternal fulfillment for all of humanity. Jesus said it this way, “…that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

After winning the Super Bowl and being crowned MVP, Kupp posted on social media, “Do it to get a crown that will last forever.” That’s a celebration that will NEVER END.

I hope we’ll see you at our Good Friday service at 7 pm and at either 9 am traditional service or 10:45 contemporary service on Easter Sunday. All three services will be live-streamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqlpogAn3i8 and both 9 am and 10:45 am services will be shown outdoors in our quad area.

In Christ,
Kurt Jones
