Dearly Beloved,
Can God really satisfy us in a world that screams for more? The question begs an answer – yes, no perhaps, it depends? How would you answer it personally? If you were to respond with a definitive “Yes, He can” – then I would surmise that you are a very contented person. If you could bottle up your secret and sell it, I am confident that you would never have to work again.
But what if we changed the question to “What satisfies God?” Do you know? If you were with us at Valley this past Sunday and had ears to hear the answer that Jesus gave to the woman at the well, then you could state it very succinctly. You can refresh your memory by meditating on John 4:23.
My message title for Sunday from John 4:27-38 is “Satisfaction Guaranteed!” Almost every advertisement that you hear or see promises something, but unfortunately most fail to deliver.
Jesus is going to share with the disciples who He loved – His secret to true satisfaction in our passage this Sunday. I encourage you to read and meditate on John 4:27-38 before we come together as a body to worship our great God and Savior. Speaking of worship, here are 5 quotes that should challenge you regarding worshipping God in spirit and in truth:
Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness, the nourishment of the mind with His truth, the purifying of the imagination of His beauty, the opening of the heart to His love, the surrender of the will to His purpose. – William Temple
Worship is not an external activity precipitated by the right environment. To worship in spirit is to draw near to God with an undivided heart. We must come in full agreement without hiding anything or disregarding His will. – Erwin Lutzer
I drove away from my mind everything capable of spoiling the sense of the presence of God…. I just make it my business to persevere in His holy presence… My soul has had a habitual, silent, secret conversation with God. – Brother Lawrence
Worship is our response to the overtures of love from the heart of the Father. Its central reality is found “in spirit and truth”. It is kindled within us only when the Spirit of God touches our human spirit. – Richard J. Foster
Worship is the believer’s response of all that they are – mind, emotions, will, body – to what God is and says and does. — Warren W. Wiersbe
Because He alone is worthy,
Glen
