“The only thing that is constant is…”

If it feels like the world is changing faster and faster every day, you aren’t wrong. In 1964 Bob Dylan wrote a song called, “The times, they are a-changin’”, but people have been feeling the stress of constant turmoil for a very long time. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is credited with the idea that the only constant in life is change and he lived almost 3,000 years ago!

Buckminster Fuller, in his book Critical Path (1982), describes the “knowledge-doubling curve,” explaining that new knowledge, which had doubled every century until 1900, is now estimated to double every 13 months. And the pace of growth is increasing. With the use of the internet and AI, some believe it will lead to the doubling of knowledge every 12 hours.

For instance, veteran Wycliffe Bible translators Jack and Jo Popjes recently reported, “For the past year, from August 2022 to August 2023, Bible translation projects have been started in more indigenous languages than ever. For comparison, when Jo and I began the Canela Bible translation work back in 1969, about one new translation project was launched every month. We remember how excited we were not so long ago when that frequency increased to almost one every week! This past year, however, 356 new projects were started, nearly one a day!” This past weekend, I heard that every major language group ON THE PLANET can have a Bible translation started by the year 2025!!!

This weekend we’re celebrating how God is transforming our changing world with His unchanging Gospel. Dr. Jon Fuller, a long time Valley Church partner, will come and share his unique perspective over a lifetime of missions experiences, from growing up on the field, to being in leadership of one of the largest missions organizations today. He’ll be preaching from Acts 11 – talk about chaotic changes happening in Christianity and the world!

We will also have worship from around the world, with a special guest group to teach us a worship song! (OK, it’s our Zimbabwe short term team members, but it’s going to be great!)

Then please plan to join us for LUNCH in the activity center right after the service. Come celebrate what God is doing while enjoying food from around the world! $5 per person or $20 maximum per family of 4 or more. Kids will have supervised free play in the quad and playground areas. Please RSVP as soon as possible with this LINK.
