Learning to Listen

Recently at Valley Church we hosted a training seminar called, “Listening for Heaven’s Sake.” Among other things, participants learned how to cultivate authentic relationships by increasing their ability to convey genuine caring and interest, overcome barrier-inducing habits and show understanding of the other person. I’ve been thinking about what it means to apply those same principles to listening to God.

One translation of our text for this Sunday says, “Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking.” (Hebrews 12:25) It’s pretty easy to take our relationship with God for granted, treat Him flippantly, pay half-hearted attention to Him and His Word.

This Sunday we’ll see what’s at stake when we do that… the warnings are severe as the stakes are eternal! When we really understand what Christ has done for us, we’ll truly be thankful. Prepare your heart to “…worship God with reverence and awe…” through song, community, celebration of the Lord’s supper, and more baptism!

It’s going to be a great day. I’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Warmly,
Kurt
