Baptism Sunday… again!

Think of how confused John was. He’s baptizing people in the Jordan river and who should walk up to GET baptized but Jesus! John has already identified Jesus as “the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29) and he knows that he’s not even “worthy to carry his sandals” (Matt 3:11)

So, John actually resists! He says, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” (Matt. 3:14) Poor John couldn’t put it together. Yet Jesus insisted, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

Jesus used this event to reveal Himself, not only to John and the world, but to set a pattern for all believers who would follow Him. As He was leaving, he said to His disciples, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matt. 28:19).

I LOVE Sundays when we get to witness people getting baptized in our service and we’ve had a LOT of them lately! We get to hear the stories of how Jesus HAS changed and IS changing the lives of people. By God’s grace we actually need to have another baptism Sunday in September! Maybe you are a little confused about baptism and what it means. I’ll do my best to clear things up for you! If you haven’t been baptized by immersion as an adult, why don’t you join us?

Our Welcome Center is still under renovation, so please pick up your coffee before arriving on campus!

I’m looking forward to seeing you soon!

In Christ,
Kurt
