Dear Friends,
Here are the headlines as I type:
“President Biden said Wednesday that Hurricane Milton is looking like the storm of the century. In less than 14 hours, Milton will make landfall on the western coast of Florida. Winds will be fierce at well over 100mph, with storm surges reading up to 15 feet along with 18 inches of rain,” he said.”
“I know it is tough leaving behind your home, your belongings, everything you own. But I urge everyone in Hurricane Milton’s path to follow all safety instructions as we head to the next 24 hours,” Biden added. “It’s literally a matter of life and death.”
“Life and death” – well that sounds dangerous and deadly to me! The Lord Jesus was sober and serious in Luke 13:1-5 when He said:
“Now on that very occasion there were some present who reported to Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. And Jesus responded and said to them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans just because they have suffered this fate? No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or do you think that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse offenders than all the other people who live in Jerusalem? No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
Those who will suffer loss are not worse sinners than those of us who live in Silicon Valley. Thousands of people in the path of Milton have boarded up their homes and fled. They are fleeing from Milton but what are they fleeing to? Proverbs tells us, “The wicked flee when no one is pursuing.” John said early in his ministry, “Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come.”
We were exhorted 2 weeks ago from the parable in Luke 12 that we are to be “dressed in readiness because we do not know the day or hour when our Lord will return.” Return He will and Milton will be just a very little breeze as compared to our Lord when He returns in flaming fire with His angels.
This Sunday we will examine the parable in Luke 14:1-14. Milton will humble us and guess what our main topic will be?
Fleeing to Jesus,
Glen
