Are You Rich?

Dear Friends,

Jesus said “Dear children, it is very hard to enter the Kingdom of God. In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

What was Jesus doing? He was using a vivid metaphor to make a profound point about the challenges wealth presents in entering God’s kingdom. Jesus did not say it was impossible, just  hard.

You might be thinking, “Glen, I am not rich.” Did you know that you are rich by the world’s standards? If you are going to sleep on a bed tonight, if you have a closet to store your clothes, if you need to change the oil in your car, if you have a choice about what you will eat for your next meal, you are rich!

So, when Jesus speaks to rich people, He is speaking to us. Moreover, He says it is harder for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for us to enter the Kingdom of God. That is because instead of concentrating on essential things like survival and our eternal destiny, we focus on personal ambitions, accumulating possessions, and public approval.

Perhaps it’s time that we hit the refresh button and readjust our priorities that align with the kingdom of God. Have you wandered off the narrow road? Just a question!

This Sunday we are again in Luke 14 examining the parable of the “Great Banquet.” If you take the time to read Luke 14:15-24 you will notice that 3 of those who were invited gave 3 different “excuses” as to why they could not attend.

God is the Inviter to the greatest banquet in the world. He wants His table full instead of half empty. Listen to the end of the parable:

“And later the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the roads and the hedges and press upon them to come in, so that my house will be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my dinner.’”

Take time daily to sit at the feet of Jesus and taste and see that He is good, because He is!

Rich because of Jesus,
Glen
