Dear Servants,
Tuesday, November 5, is not just another day in our lives. We go to the polls tomorrow to exercise the privilege and responsibility as Jesus’ followers to be salt and light in our fallen world. Voting is a way to be engaged in shaping policies and electing leaders that impact society and align with principles of justice, compassion, and integrity.
When it comes to voting, are you:
- Indifferent
- Disillusioned with politics
- Feeling politically uninformed
- Dissatisfied with the choices
- Fed up with the whole process
If we believe that the Word of God is the authority that governs our lives, how then shall we vote? Here is a quote from Gresham Machen’s book, “The Christian Faith in the Modern World.”
“If we take the Bible as the Word of God, then the Bible becomes our standard of truth and of life. When we are asked whether we could support any kind of message or can engage in any course of conduct, what we do is simply to compare that message or that course of conduct with the Bible. If it agrees with the Bible, we can support it or follow it; if it does not agree with the Bible, we cannot support it or follow it, no matter what we may be told by other authorities to do.”
I am sending out our “Valley Weekly” in advance to encourage you to vote tomorrow in light of the clear teachings of the Bible and to keep in mind that, “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
When the election results are declared, and especially if the outcome is not as you had hoped and prayed, remind yourself that, although it does not always seem so, the Lord our God the Almighty reigns! “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.” Proverbs 21:1
This Sunday our sovereign Lord from the two little parables in Luke 14:25-35 is emphatically laying down the ground rules for discipleship. The question is are you and I passionate disciples of the Lord Jesus or not? Are we pew sitters or world changers?
We would do well starting today until we take our last breath on planet earth to cast our ballot for King Jesus.
Until all hear,
Glen
