Dearly Beloved,
Do you know the origin of this quote? “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.” This famous quote is from the movie, It’s A Wonderful Life. It’s catchy, but is it true? How many of the following statements are true:
- Angels are human beings who have died
- All Angels have harps, halos, and wings
- Everyone has a personal guardian angel
- Angels are omnipotent and omniscient
- Angels should be worshiped
- Angels always appear as gentle, feminine figures
- Angels are always visible
- Angels mediate between God and humans
They are all myths, so how did you do? The fact is that myths abound and misconceptions about angels have developed over time, often influenced by cultural traditions, art, or fictional portrayals.
This Sunday we will explore what God’s Word says about angels. Consider these thought-provoking questions to guide your understanding: Who are angels, and what is their purpose in God’s plan? What do angels do, and how do they minister to God’s people? When do angels appear in Scripture, and what lessons can we learn from those moments? Where are angels active today, and how do they influence the spiritual and physical realms? Why did God create angels, and what do their actions reveal about His character and glory? Finally, how should we respond to the truths about angels, and how does this knowledge impact our faith and worship?
Reflecting on these questions will not only deepen your understanding of angels but also draw you closer to the majesty of God, who commands His heavenly hosts for His glory and our good. Let us marvel together at the wonders and mysteries found in the Word of God.
Celebrating the Incarnation,
Glen
