Dearly Beloved,
Blisters-they are the unwelcome travel companions we would all rather avoid. Whether caused by friction from shoes, a burn, or even prolonged pressure, they are a small yet painful reminder of the wear and tear our bodies endure when we have pushed them beyond the limits. A blister might seem like just a nuisance on the surface, but it tells a story. It is a sign that the body has been pushed to its limit, forming a protective bubble over a vulnerable spot. And like life itself, they often demand care and attention before the healing begins.
When dealing with a blister, we are to gently clean it, avoid further irritation, and let it heal naturally—because neglecting it only causes deeper pain. But what happens when blisters symbolize something deeper, like a life of sacrifice or devotion?
Last Sunday Pastor Craig began his message talking about a man who had “blistered feet.” I think he was referring to Sadhu Sundar Singh, a renowned Indian Christian missionary. Known as “The Apostle with the Bleeding Feet,” Sundar Singh was a Sikh who converted to Christianity and became a traveling evangelist. He often journeyed barefoot through the rugged terrains of India, Nepal, and Tibet to share the Gospel, enduring great physical hardship. His blistered and bleeding feet became a powerful testimony of his dedication to Christ, which moved people to listen to his message.
I do not know if Paul who wrote the Colossians had blistered feet, but he wrote, “Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep.” I do not know if he had blisters, but he had bruises and scars all over his body.
Paul understood that it was granted to him not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for Christ’s sake. Paul was living a purpose-driven life. Do you know your purpose here on Planet earth and is there enough evidence to convince others that it is a reality in your life?
This Sunday we will examine Col. 2:6-7. Our study in Colossians takes a dramatic turn as Paul begins to instruct the believers on how to live out the supremacy of Christ daily. Please take time to meditate on these two verses. Men, it is not too late to sign up online for our Men’s Breakfast this Saturday. Pastor Craig will be challenging all of us!
In His name and for His fame,
Glen
