One day I was in a packed studio audience at the HP facility (now Apple HQ), waiting for a national broadcast to begin. The other Valley Church pastors and I had a great view with front row seats. The host, Bill Dallas, looking good in a nice dress shirt, walked out just before the show started unaware of a huge coffee stain on his chest. The audience tried yelling to alert him, but he was confused. Then one quick-thinking man simply handed Bill his own shirt, saying, “Take yours off and wear mine!” I don’t remember the broadcast, but I’ll never forget that moment.
Paul told the church in Colossae, “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Col. 3:9,10. His description of the “old self” is not pretty, WAY worse than a coffee stain! This Sunday we’re talking about how to live our lives in a way that is consistent with our true identity in Christ. And it’s not a new list of rules and regulations; it’s far deeper than that. Read Col. 3:1-14 to get a preview!
We are all thanking God for a wonderful Easter celebration last week. Thanks to all the volunteers who made it possible! It was a great day to celebrate our Risen Savior. Pray that the seeds planted and the ones watered will grow to maturity.
See you Sunday but watch out for coffee stains!
In Christ alone,
Kurt
