We live in a world captivated by survival. Shows like Survivor echo a deep truth: we all face challenges that test our limits—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But while reality TV focuses on alliances, eliminations, and endurance, Psalm 30 points to a deeper narrative: the movement of the heart from independence to dependence, from pride to humility, from isolation to intimacy with God.
David’s journey in this Psalm is raw and honest. He does not sugarcoat his emotional swings—from feeling secure in his strength, to being shaken to the core when God’s favor seemed distant. And yet, through every valley and mountaintop, we witness the hand of God shaping his heart, not just for survival, but for transformation.
This Sunday, we will explore the spiritual spectrum that runs through Psalm 30. Are we truly thriving in our walk with the Lord, merely surviving on shallow faith, or denying the hard realities altogether? David’s movements—his independence shifting to dependence, his mourning turning to dancing—offer us more than encouragement; they offer us a roadmap.
Let us take off the spiritual blindfold and invite God to meet us exactly where we are—whether we are in a season of flourishing or floundering. Because in the end, survival is not the goal. Worship is!
Rejoice always and pray without ceasing,
Glen
P.S. Happy 4th of July!
