Dear Sojourners,
What kind of people does God use? We have been racing through the Old Testament the last 21 weeks. We have examined many OT Biblical characters who God chose to use to fulfill His eternal kingdom story. Jesus chose 12 outsiders nobody would have chosen and changed the world! Our Lord uses “people just like us.”
We come this week to chapter 21, “Rebuilding the Walls.” Who is God going to use? What kind of people from the list below would you choose?
- The enthusiastic?
- The courageous?
- The decisive?
- The spiritual?
- The wise?
- The humble?
I would cast my vote for a man like Nehemiah, “A man who cried out to the God of heaven.” Nehemiah was no preacher, prophet, priest, or pastor. He was a Jewish cupbearer to a king named Artaxerxes, who reigned from the city of Susa in what is today’s Iran. Note this, “Nehemiah was a man who used his position to bring people back to God.”
We are in the most important work in the universe – bringing people to the feet of Jesus. Our glorious Lord longs/loves to use people just like us. This Sunday we will learn some value life lessons from Nehemiah’s life as we live out “our story.” Consider inviting a friend!
Because of Jesus,
Glen
