The End?

Dear Family,

Webster defines apocalypse as a sudden violent event that brings about great loss or destruction. There are people today who fear that the next global pandemic could be an apocalypse of biblical proportions.

Today as I was working out at 24 Hour Fitness, I looked up on the monitor and saw the devastation in Lebanon that took over 500 lives as well as the over 4,000 who suffered major injuries.

Sometimes, people ask me, “Glen, are we in the last days?” My response is, “We have been in the last days for 2,000 years.” A more poignant question would be, “Are we in the last of the last days?” To that question I do not have a definitive answer!

I do know from the book of Acts that the early church was on their “tiptoes” waiting for Christ to return. They thought it could happen anytime and thus they lived in anticipation and expectation.

Kurt taught last Sunday from Luke 12 on the parable of the “rich fool” and his title was, “Where is your heart?” Great question that demands an honest and humble answer for you and for me.

This Sunday we will examine the parable in Luke 12, “The parable of the watchful servants or the parable of the waiting servants.”

I hope that you will take a little time to read and meditate on Luke 12:35-48. You and I, like the early church, should be on our “tiptoes” looking for and hastening our Lord’s second coming!

Our parable starts out with the exhortation to be “dressed in readiness.” Are you ready? Paul wanted Jesus’ followers all over the world to “wake up from their sleep.” Listen to these words from the end of Romans 13:

“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”

Come quickly Lord Jesus,
Glen
