If Christ is Mt. Everest, why haven’t I made it to the top?

In our series “No Rival, No Equal” in the book of Colossians, we’ve likened the sufficiency of Christ to the beauty and unrivaled splendor of Mt. Everest. But ascending Mt. Everest, even with a team, is no easy feat. It presents climbers with an intense challenge of extreme cold, dangerously low oxygen levels, and treacherous landscapes. The infamous “death zone” on Mt. Everest is located at 26,247 feet where many climbers succumb to the harsh effects of hypoxia, frostbite, exhaustion, and severe altitude sickness.

In our text this week we’re warned about five things that can capture us in our journey with Christ (from verses 6,7). Paul focuses on all that God has done for us in Christ, but ties those blessings to specific dangers that each and every one of us can get caught up in.

I hope you’ll join us as we celebrate our steadfast security with God through communion and then look at the blessings and warnings in Col. 2:8 -15. We’ll also share briefly about our recent missions trip to Indonesia and some reports of how God is at work in the largest Muslim nation in the world.

In Christ,
Kurt

P.S. Some of you have asked about a memorial for my Mom and Dad. We’ll be celebrating their lives on April 5th at 1pm at Valley Church. All are welcome.
