Dearly beloved,
Who are you hanging out with? Does it really matter? If you are a parent, are you at all concerned about your children’s friends? Years ago, I memorized this verse:
“He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” Proverbs 13:20
Wisdom in the Old Testament refers to, “skill in living.” If there was ever a time when wisdom is needed it is now! You need it, I need it, our children need it, our nation needs it and the church needs it – because fools abound! Fools who are deceiving our children, our grandchildren, our nation and our world. Unfortunately, they are also in the church!
Friends that’s why we need Jesus – “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col. 2:3 Below are some other references in the book of Colossians to wisdom.
“For this reason, also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Col. 1:9
“We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.” Col. 1:28
“These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.” Col. 2:23
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Col. 3:16
“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.” Col. 4:5
I want to encourage you to meditate on Phil. 2:19-30 in preparation for Sunday. We will examine 2 priceless servants who exhibited, “skill in living.” These 2 humble men learned from a “wise, older, seasoned veteran!” My title is, “The Kind of People God Uses.”
I leave for Zimbabwe on Monday for almost 10 weeks. Patty will stay here as she is still rehabbing her knee. She is doing great and thanks you for all your love and prayers!
Because He has made me glad,
Glen
