Who is your favorite Superhero?

If you haven’t noticed, “Super Heroes” are extremely popular right now. I remember reading Superman comics when I was a kid, but that’s about it. The latest Marvel movie, “Infinity War” features 28 superheroes, but one expert estimates 15,000 characters in the Marvel universe alone. Overwhelming? Hardly. “Infinity War” is now one of just three films to have made more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office. That’s pretty popular!

Who wouldn’t want to be a hero right? We all dream of “saving the day”, if not the universe, in a heroic moment of valor and bravery. As you think about 2019, will you be a “superhero”? Maybe you aren’t facing world-wide cataclysmic disaster. Maybe we go to movies like this because our lives seem pretty bland and unexciting.

If there is a Jewish “Super Hero” it is Moses. Basically, he single handedly rescued the people of God from slavery in Egypt. He threw down plagues that had the most powerful and evil ruler of the world at his mercy. As far as Pharaoh was concerned, it was a world-wide cataclysmic disaster worthy of a box office movie. (Yes, Cecil B. DeMille’s “Ten Commandments” did pretty well in it’s day!)

This Sunday we’ll see three lessons from the life of Moses to help us face whatever challenges are in front us for the New Year, whether big or small. I encourage you to read over Numbers 11 to familiarize yourself with Moses challenges and how God saved the day.

Don’t forget about out New Year’s Eve Eve prayer gathering at 6 pm on Sunday 12/30/18 (not Monday). What a great way to declare our dependence on the only Superhero of any universe… Jesus!

In Christ Alone,

Kurt
