When Kurt became a Christian he told God he’d never be a missionary or a pastor. Despite his slow start, God gave him a passion to see people understand the Bible and apply it to their lives. That’s what opened his eyes as a senior in high school and what moves him to serve God the way he does. Since then, he’s been a missionary to the Philippines, travelled all over the world on missions teams, and served as a pastor at Los Gatos Christian Church, Santa Cruz Bible Church, and Valley Church. Here, he has the privilege of preaching, giving leadership to our amazing staff, and overseeing our outreach ministries. Kurt is a San Jose native and enjoys travel, reading, volleyball, strong (hot) coffee, and spending time with his family. His wife Valorie grew up as a missionary kid in the Amazon region of northern Brazil. They met at Biola University where they both got MA degrees in Intercultural Studies, although Kurt did his undergrad at Liberty University in Virginia. They were married in 1991, have four daughters in college, and have been at Valley Church since 2001.
