Dearly beloved,
“Surrender to Love” is a title of a book that I just picked up from my desk! It is written by David Benner and deals with, “Discovering the Heart of Christian Spirituality.” The book was a gift from someone who loves me!
Professor Gary Oliver says:
“The tragic reality is that most people don’t know what real love looks like, and so they spend a lifetime living with a superficial caricature of the real thing.”
That wouldn’t describe you, would it? Needless to say, we are all on a journey of discovery that will eventually lead us somewhere? But will we at the end experience fullness of joy and pleasures forever?
Why would anyone not “surrender to the love of God in Christ Jesus?” Perhaps it could be because of a distorted view of God and His will for our lives?
John, is sometimes called the “Apostle of Love” because he said that he was the disciple who Jesus loved! He wrote in 1 John 3:
“See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason, the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure”
Do you have the same kind of confidence, hope and passion? It is not for “super saints” but possible for all disciples of Jesus. My title this Sunday based on Phil. 1:6-8 is, “Assurance of God’s Goodness.”
Please continue to read and reread Philippians and meditate on Phil. 1:1-8. Also, men this is the last Sunday to sign up for the men’s breakfast. We have a great number already!
Because God finishes what He starts,
Glen
