A Holy Calling

Dear Saints,

The Basilica La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona Spain is truly an amazing piece of history and architecture – started in 1882 (139 years ago), it reached it’s mid-point of construction in 2010. That’s using modern construction technology and computers, and it’s still going. At this point in time there are only eight towers, but when La Sagrada Familia is completed, it will have eighteen – the highest one in the middle will represent Jesus Christ.

Regardless of what you think of the aesthetics, the Gospel and truth of Scripture is represented EVERYWHERE in that place. The architect was Antoni Gaudi – a man of great Christian faith with ideas WAY ahead of his time. His vision for this great cathedral was massive and yet included the most minute details. It’s fascinating!

Last Sunday we learned about how we have become living stones and are being built up, “…as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5) God’s vision for the church is vast and yet it included the smallest details. Those little details include you and me. We may seem insignificant, but each of us are very important to God.

It reminds me of the parable about the two bricklayers. A traveler came upon two men working. He asked the first man what he was doing and the man said he was laying bricks. He asked the second man what he was doing and he said he was building a cathedral. They were both doing the same thing. The first man had a job. The second man had a calling.

This Sunday we’ll learn about this holy calling we have as God’s “chosen ones” from 1 Peter 2:9 though 12. I’ll see you there.

In Christ,
Kurt
