If it feels good …?

Dearly Beloved,

If it feels good, just __________! How would you fill in the blank? If you have been programmed by Nike then the answer is simple, “Just do it!” However, you should think about whether this is a good axiom for living one’s life. Peter’s message to Christ followers in 1 Peter is that they emulate the example of Christ. Jesus did not live His life on earth by feelings but by faith! The cross was not some touchy-feely object, but an instrument of death. While we should thank God for our emotions, we should not be manipulated by our moods but instead be motivated by finding favor in the sight of our Father.

This Sunday we will spend time examining 1 Peter 3:7 in context of the verses surrounding it.
“You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.”

What husband wants God the Father to shut His ears to their prayers? I have not met any in the past or in recent days. Living with one’s wife in an understanding way involves much more than feelings. The last part of Ephesians 5 provides some solid guidelines for loving our wives as Christ loves the church. I hope that you will join us for Church on the Grass or online. My sermon title is, “Man Made in the Image of God.”

Because the Word became flesh,
