Maybe your storm has made landfall?

Dear Sojourners,

Has your storm made landfall? It has been said that we are either in a storm, just come out of a storm or will be in one shortly. Does that sound like “good news?” We all must deal with reality whether we like it or not. I suppose you could be in the “eye of the storm” where everything is calm momentarily?

This Sunday we will examine one of the three biblical accounts of Jesus walking on the water. Only Matthew recounts Peter getting out of the boat and walking on the water. Matthew, Mark, and John all record these words of Jesus, “It is I, do not be afraid!”

Facing any fears, doubts, struggles, battles? You might be thinking, “Glen, how much time do you have?” There is Someone who has all the time in the world just for you. He inclines His ear and invites us to come to Him with our deep dark secrets. Jesus knows when we are sinking and will reach out His loving saving hand if we cry out.

I hope that you will join us this Sunday. Can you think of a neighbor or friend who is in a storm that they hope will not make landfall? Why not invite them because what do you have to lose? Would you like to know the stats on the number of people who come to church for the first time because they were invited? Here is one answer to the question:

“The friendship factor. We’ve asked more than 50,000 people over the last 10 years why they came to church, and between 75 and 90 percent of respondents say, “I began attending because someone invited me.”

Please take some time to meditate on John 6:15-25 before Sunday. You will hear if you come that Jesus did not invite His disciples to get into a boat – “He made them.” Hence, they were going to embark on a night of adventure that would change their lives! Eventually their boat made “landfall.” I think yours will too!

Please take the time to sign up for “Tent-Fest” online and check out our table on Sunday morning. There will be a celebration of the life of Lynne Watters on Sunday afternoon the 16th of October in our sanctuary. Let’s continue to lift up Dave, Matthew and the rest of the family.

In His solid grip,
Glen
