Destined for a Destination?

Dear Friends,

Do you believe in destiny? How about a destination when you die? What do those two words mean and is there any connection?

The word destiny refers to the predetermined course of events or the inevitable outcome of a person’s life. It often implies a sense of fate or predestination, suggesting that certain events or outcomes are bound to happen regardless of individual choices or actions. However, in a broader sense, destiny can also encompass the idea of purpose or calling, reflecting the unique plan or path that a person is meant to follow in life. Ultimately, destiny can be understood as the culmination of all the factors, including personal choices, circumstances, and divine providence, which shape an individual’s life journey and ultimate destination.

Destination refers to the place or goal toward which someone or something is moving or directed. It denotes a specific endpoint that one intends to reach or achieve.

Destiny and destination share a common root in the Latin word “destinare,” which means “to make firm or establish.” Despite their differences in meaning, both words ultimately convey the idea of a final outcome or endpoint.

This Sunday our message from Joshua 1 focuses on God’s destiny and destination for His chosen people. God had promised Israel that He would bring them into the “Promised Land.” They had been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years due to their grumbling and unbelief! Moses is dead and two to three million Israelites are poised on the east side of the Jordan river ready to enter their promised possession.

In Joshua 1:1-9 the Lord gives Joshua a strategic battle plan for slaying giants and claiming their inheritance! Let me remind you that, “Whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Rom. 15:4

Have any giants in your life? Lost sight of the fact that you are destined as a Christ follower for the throne? Join us this Sunday and invite someone who has lost hope!

In His solid grip,
Glen
