The Perfect Parent

I remember holding our beautiful newborn baby and hearing the nurse say, “You can take her home…” I thought, “NOW what?” Fortunately, Valorie was more prepared than I was, but the adventure of parenting had begun! To be sure, there is nothing that could produce more joy than this little kid! But to be honest, there was also nothing more challenging!

“The truth is, parenting as well as we can is always hard – really, truly, the hardest thing any of us has ever done.” Dr. Laura Markham, Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting.

Our passage for Sunday says, “They (our parents) disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.” (Hebrews 12:10) And just as a 2-year-old has a hard time understanding why her parents won’t let her play in a busy street and would “discipline” her if she tried, we often can’t understand God’s ways with us. The writer of Hebrew makes it clear that, unlike most parents, God knows EXACTLY what he is doing in guiding us to “…share in his holiness.”

BIG thanks to all who helped make Good Friday and Easter a wonderful weekend! Our Children’s ministry did an amazing job with the “True Story” Gospel presentation! Way to go everyone!

In Christ,
